A Disney Very Merrytime Cruise is a magical experience that adds an extra layer of holiday enchantment to your vacation. What I love most about the holiday sailings is it REALLY gets you in the Christmas spirit. From preparing your attire packing list, to the smells and sounds on board. Here is my list of some aspects that you should do to make it festive and what DCL does to make it feel like Christmas!
You MUST pack Christmas pajamas. You will want at least one pair and I usually pack them for every other day. Yes, I buy matching ones and matching Disney shirts to go with it. We even wear them to dinner a couple of nights. There is nothing more cozy than walking to the movie theater on a sea day at 10am in our pajamas and popcorn bucket and even a Disney blanket. Is it super cold on board, no, but are Christmas pjs comfortable and festive, YES, so plan on wearing them some.
A great thing to pack and surprise your family with our Disney Christmas mugs. You can find them all over starting in October at TJ Max, Target, etc. It’s a really fun gift idea for your travelers or people on your Fish Extenders list. Hot cocoa can be filled by the buffet at anytime!
Make seeing Santa a MUST. Mr. and Mrs. Claus on board are stunning and create amazing holiday pictures for your year’s Christmas card!
DCL has Festive Decorations: The entire Disney Cruise Line fleet is adorned with holiday decorations during the Very Merrytime sailings. You’ll find Christmas trees, twinkling lights, wreaths, garlands, and poinsettias throughout the ships, creating a warm and festive atmosphere which also make great picture backgrounds!
Life-size Gingerbread House: A highlight of the cruise is the life-size gingerbread house located in the ship’s atrium. This edible masterpiece is made of thousands of gingerbread pieces and takes hours to assemble. It fills the air with the delightful smell of gingerbread, adding to the holiday ambiance. You will see this right when you walk onboard!
Characters in Holiday Attire: Disney characters join in the celebration, donning their holiday best for festive deck parties, themed activities, and photo opportunities. You might see Mickey and Minnie dressed in holiday sweaters, or Goofy wearing a Santa suit.
Holiday-themed Activities and Entertainment: Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of holiday-themed activities and entertainment for guests of all ages. This might include gingerbread house making, ornament crafting, caroling, and special holiday shows or performances in the ship’s theater. Check your Disney Navigator app when you enter the ship as all of the activities will be listed then.
Magical Snowfall: Disney Cruise Line creates a winter wonderland on the high seas by magically making it snow in the ship’s atrium. Guests can enjoy this special holiday moment, complete with holiday music and twinkling lights. Some of the theater shows will start with Christmas Carolers on the balcony followed by a snow fall so don’t be late to the shows, in fact I ALWAYS recommend getting there early, take your popcorn bucket of even some pizza to keep the kids busy and full. Sit in the front 10 rows for sure!
Castaway Cay Transformation: Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, is also transformed for the Very Merrytime sailings. The island features holiday decorations, a Christmas tree, and even its own “snow” flurries.
The pictures below show you that it’s a tropical paradise with some comfy and festive flair! A cruise experience not to miss!
