If you are seeking which port adventure you should book for your Tortola port of call, look no further! Our family recently had the pleasure of setting sail on the Disney Fantasy, with an Eastern Caribbean itinerary. This itinerary did not disappoint one bit! First cruise stop- BVI (British Virgin Islands)
The British Virgin Islands are home to some of the most gorgeous natural wonders and beaches in the Caribbean, and the Tortola Baths are no exception.
Located on the southern end of the British island, Virgin Gorda, the Baths are a collection of towering granite boulders forming a series of natural tidal pools, grottoes, and tunnels.
To get to the Tortola Baths, we took a ferry from the Tortola port to Virgin Gorda, which is located about 20 miles east of Tortola. Once on the island, we took a shuttle bus to the Baths national park. Upon arriving to Virgin Gorda, our guide provided an overview of the day, and instructed us on which path to take.
We were greeted by a long, winding, rocky trail leading down to the beach. As we made our way down the trail, we were surrounded by lush vegetation and towering boulders, creating this sense of enchantment and mystery.
Once we arrived, we saw beautiful crystal clear waters and massive boulders forming a natural barrier against the sea. The boulders create a series of pools and grottoes that are perfect for swimming and exploring and our 7 year old had the best time doing exactly that!
Exploring the Baths is an adventure in and of itself, as you’ll need to climb, and wade your way through the boulders and pools to see everything the area has to offer. The main trail through the area is well-marked, but it can be narrow and steep in spots, so it’s important to wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a bit of a workout. Definitely be sure to bring your water to hydrate!
At the very end of the tour, you will find a beach hut that sells food, drinks, coconuts, and merchandise nearby. Our family enjoyed our daiquiris, and my son tried his first fresh coconut, before heading to the restaurant at the very top of the baths. He was not a fan! A Caribbean style buffet lunch is included in the Day at the Baths tour. There is also a shorter “Tour to Virgin Gorda” that offers a shorter, but very similar experience as the Day at the Baths tour, without the food, and a bit less time to explore.
All in all, we were just amazed at how beautiful and scenic it was here! It’s a truly unique and awe-inspiring sight, and it’s easy to see why the Baths are one of the most popular tourist destinations in the British Virgin Islands. With the stunning natural beauty, history, and abundant opportunities for exploration and adventure, the Baths are a true Caribbean gem that should not be missed!
