- Ocean Ships: Due to their massive size, ocean liners usually have to dock in large industrial ports. When an ocean cruise says they are visiting “Rome,” they actually dock in Civitavecchia, which is about 60–90 minutes away from the Colosseum. You’ll spend a significant portion of your day just getting to and from the sights.
